Dress Code
At K&B Dance Company, we don’t believe in putting our students in a box. We believe all our students should be free to express themselves and their personal individual style! Keeping that in mind, there are very few rules when it comes to what clothing or accessories they wear to class. However for safety purposes, there are still a few that are listed below:
-
Appropriate footwear must be worn all times during In-person classes to ensure the safety of each student. No child will be permitted under any circumstance to wear the following types of footwear:
- Flip Flops
- Open toe footwear (sandals, flats, etc) This rule is only exempt if you are enrolled in heels class and you decide to wear open-toe high heel boots or booties that are approved by the instructor first!
- Rain boots
- Winter boots
- Slippers
- Any footwear with platforms (especially if you are in heels class, you want to be able to feel the floor)
- Hard toe/Steal toe boots
2. No Skinny jeans are ever permitted to be worn during class because they restrict the ability to do the movements taught in class. However, jean shorts or baggy jeans are permitted to be worn as long as the shorts are at least above the knee so they do not restrict movements.
3. No students should wear Rings or bracelets during class because we do a lot of hand/arm movements which increases the chance of it flying off during class and getting lost.
What to wear to class
HipHop: If you are enrolled in one of our HipHop Classes, you need to wear a clean pair of either sneakers or combat boots. We recommend that student's enrolled in this class wear baggy pants such as jogging pants or track pants and a loose or cropped top such as a hoodie, 3/4 top, super cropped top, or baggy T-shirt.

Contemporary/Lyrical: If you sign up to participate in this style of dance, you will have to dress for the movements included in this style such as leaps, kicks, turns, etc. Therefore, we recommend you wear tight fitting clothing such as tank tops, crop tops, stretchy shorts, tights, skirts, dresses, etc. If you choose to wear a skirt or dress, you will be required to wear shorts underneath to participate in class. For footwear we recommend you wear socks to make turning easier.

Jazz Funk: If you are enrolled in one of our Street Jazz Classes, you need to wear a clean pair of either sneakers, combat boots or socks. We recommend that student's enrolled in this class wear tighter fitting clothing such as leggings or shorts for bottoms so we are able to see your legs and perfect lines and a loose or tight fitting shirt such as a cropped top, hoodie, tank top or T-shirt.

Street Fusion: Since this is a mixture of HipHop & Jazz Funk, any of the above recommended clothing or required footwear are permitted to be worn for class.

Pre-Heels, Heels & LA Based Classes: These classes are meant to be free and make you feel confident. Feel free to wear things such as booty shorts, fishnet tights, bodysuits, lingerie, and everything in between! Wear whatever makes you feel confident and sexy. For our Pre-Heels & LA Based student's under the age of 16, you can wear whatever makes you feel confident and pretty but no lingerie will be permitted to be worn by any student under the age of 16 even with parent consent. Heels will not be worn unless approved by the teacher for safety reasons.

Mix of Styles: The style taught in this particular class changes each week. It will be announced on our Facebook page every week what style will be taught in this class. Based on whatever style is being taught, you should then go to the recommended clothing section on this page for that style.

TikTok: This style includes a combination of other styles including HipHop, Street Jazz, Heels, LA Based, etc. Any of the recommended clothing listed for those styles are acceptable to be worn for this class as well.

Cheer-Dance: This style has a lot of different movements such as jumps, high kicks, skipping, cartwheels, splits, etc. Even if you can't do cartwheels or splits, it is still recommended that you dress as if you could. We recommend that you wear tight fitting clothing such as tank tops, crop tops, stretchy shorts, leggings, etc. If you choose to wear a dress or skirt, you will be required to wear shorts underneath. At no time will you be allowed to participate in this class wearing socks, it is not safe to do so therefore you will be required to wear sneakers or go bare foot.

Choreo-Creation: The recommendation for this class is very simple. Whatever style you choose to choreograph to, is the clothing recommendation you should go by. For example, if you are creating a HipHop routine then you should read the recommendation for HipHop classes listed above.
